This sounds great even on my flat laptop speakers. Do you write like a sketch on the piano before orchestrating the whole thing, or directly?

Nice! Could fit really well as background fighting music in a game. I'm also curious of your writing style. I'm guessing you take each piece separately while building on the song, rather than having the whole picture in your head.

Hey, thanks a lot guys! This sounds great even on my flat laptop speakers. Do you write like a sketch on the piano before orchestrating the whole thing, or directly? It actually all starts with this: Guitar was my first, and still best instrument, so that is basically how I realize all the ideas in my head. From there, I notate/tab this on a two-line (sometimes three for counter-melodies) sketch consisting of melody and bassline. During this whole time, I'm thinking about the style of the piece and what instruments are likely to be playing the melody and such so that by the time I'm done I'll have it all orchestrated in my head. In this one, I knew it was going to be mostly brass so I kept that in mind as I was writing. After that, I export the MIDI of that sketch and load it into the piano track in my DAW's template. From there, I just play along with the virtual instruments, automate the tempo, add the harmony lines, percussion, etc. I'd say on this one, composing the tune took about 30 - 40 minutes and the mockup of it was probably around 4 hours.
